Lead Vocals & Bass
I started singing in my first band
when I was about fifteen. It was the usual garage band full of a bunch of
young guys doing it for a good time and sounding pretty awful.
But, this made me fall in love with
playing and writing music and performing. After about a year in my
first band I began to take singing seriously after hearing what a few of my
favorite rock singers could do.
So, I took some lessons and from there
fronted too many bands for me to remember.
Eventually I formed a band with my
best friend Al Brozostowski, who had been in a lot of local acts, and little
did I know happened to be a great guitar player.
We found our old buddy Dino Losurdo
out clubbing one night. First thing he asks me is, "you're a singer aren't
you?!"
And since he was hammering the table
like he had a nervous tic, I said, "And you must be the
drummer we're looking for." Al came over and many beers later a
band was formed, and we hadn't even heard each other play.
After a while I met Sheree and found
she smoked on guitar. So, I had no choice but to recruit her for my band.
This worked for quite a while. We did some shows and recorded a demo.
Later on Al decided to quit because
of musical differences, and Dino moved to Georgia.
That left Sheree and I to totally
reform the band from the ground up. Little did we know that John Pontrelli,
a good friend of Dino's, had seen one of our shows and had his sites set on
being our drummer.
So, when he found out we needed one
he was all over it. We got extremely lucky and found a great drummer
right off the bat.
We then recruited Al Chidsey and
went out as Frayd for a couple of years. Eventually this band broke up
for various reasons and never really got off the ground again.
After getting really sick of dealing
with shit from other people, and all the crap you have to deal with being in
a band, I nearly quit the whole band thing all together. I just told Sheree
I needed a break.
After thinking the whole thing
through I decided that I needed to learn an instrument, besides voice.
I felt it would help me convey song ideas and doing double duty would cut
the potential for one more hassle/ego/band member out of the act.
I took up the bass and I am loving it as
an instrument. I find it much more enjoyable to sing and play rather
than just sing. I feel more in tune with the music and the rest of the
band.
So, after I got far enough along on
the bass to play a whole set and sing at the same time we contacted John Pontrelli to see if he was still interested. To our surprise no
other band lived up to what he wanted out of a band, or snatched him up.
Again I got lucky and found a kick ass drummer with one phone call.
So, here we are again as FRAYD.
